ā The Snooze Button:
āThere is a scientific reason why you should never hit the snooze button.
Modern neuroscience explains why.
Two words:
Sleep inertia.
When you hit the snooze button, youĀ“re awake; and as the alarm turns off, your brain drifts back into sleep.
And hereĀ“s the thing that researchers have figured out; when you drift back to sleep after youĀ“ve woken up, your brain starts a new sleep cycle.
And sleep cycles take 75 to 90 minutes to complete. So when that alarm goes on again in 9 minutes your brain is completely shocked.
Have you noticed?
You are in deep sleep, when you drift back to sleep.
ThatĀ“s because you are 9 minutes in to a 75 minute sleep cycle.
That groggy, exhausted feeling that you have -thatĀ“s not a function of how well you slept.
ThatĀ“s you being a lazy idiot for hitting the snooze button and putting your brain in a state of sleep inertia.
And it takes your brain about 4 hours to get through that groggy ass feeling.
So, when the alarm rings, get your ass out of bed.ā
